Military Service – A Sacrifice and Commitment

The volunteer staff of the LSCGG has begun the indexing of all military service records that are available on microfilm at the LSCGG office. As of April 2024, the service records are for the American Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and World War I. That project currently stands at over 4,000 records that include (in some cases): (1) name of soldier; (2) rank of soldier; (3) current and/or last unit; (4) date and place of discharge; (5) date and place of entry into service; (6) age and place of birth; (7) physical description of the soldier; (8) occupation of soldier when he entered service; (9) battles in which the soldier was engaged; and (10) military awards earned.

Please note that many records were located on different rolls of microfilm, and there are duplicate copies of records for the same individual; however, the scans of the duplicates usually have a slightly different appearance. PDF copies of any particular military record can be requested by emailing the LSCGG the name of the soldier-of-interest.
